Alfa Laval's 100th anniversary

The year 2017 marks the centenary of the Lund-based company’s ties to the marine industry.

Back in 1917, Alfa Laval delivered its fist centrifugal oil-cleaning separator at the request of the U.S. Navy. Ever since then, the Swedish company - the history of which dates back to 1877 when Gustaf de Laval started to work on the development of a centrifugal separator - has been building a rich maritime legacy.

In 1952, for instance, the P12 plate heat exchanger was the first such equipment to be sold and installed on a ship. In 2004, the Pure Thnking philosophy became the company's framework for developing environmental solutions for the shipping business, such as scrubbers for getting rid of sulphur, machinery for reducing nitrogen emissions, and a system for ballast water treatment (the world's first to be commercially available).

In 2019, we'll be celebrating together with Alfa Laval the 100th anniversary of the delivery of the first Aalborg marine boiler (from 2011 part of the company's portfolio). Best wishes!
