Gdańsk to have a new terminal

Krajowa Spółka Cukrowa, the largest sugar beet grower in Poland, has leased land near the Wiślane Quay in the Gdańsk port in order to set up its own terminal dedicated to handling sugar.

The new facility will comprise a 50,000 tn of capacity silo, a 10,000 tn big warehouse for finished goods, a packing floor, a parking lot for up to 37 lorries, as well as a container depot able to store around 130 boxes at one time.

The terminal will be capable of receiving sugar via rail (in containers) and coming inside specialised silo-trucks. Exporting sugar will be possible with the use of containers stuffed with big-boxes and as break-bulk.

"Erecting the very first sugar terminal in Poland will give us the opportunity to export as much as 75,000 tn during the season. The facility's silo will be effectively put to use, decreasing the need to rent out space in external warehouses. As such, the costs of freight handling, transportation, storing, material use, and labour work will drop as well, not to mention minimising the loss of sugar when moving it between the sugar factory, external warehouses, and the port. The investment will make it possible for us to ship via the port around 300,000 tn of sugar outside the EU per year," Henryk Wnorowski, Chairman of the Board, Krajowa Spółka Cukrowa, commented.
