Ystad to become part of the Baltic-Adriatic Corridor?

The Port of Ystad has organised a roundtable with Members of the European Parliament, discussing the rationale behind including the Swedish port in the TEN-T Baltic-Adriatic Core Corridor.

"We are working towards giving the traffic between Ystad and Poland a higher priority on the EU agenda, and the roundtable discussion was a step in the right direction. By doing so, it will mean a great deal of help when developing both the Port of Ystad and the region," Björn Boström, Port of Ystad's Managing Director, said.

Olle Ludvigsson, European Parliament's Member who took part in the discussion, added, "It is of utmost importance for the EU transport policy to follow traffic developments in Europe, so we can create robust infrastructure that in turn gives the Member States the opportunity to grow further, including creating more jobs. And it's particularly encouraging that Ystad port has come up with such an initiative, pointing to the importance of transportation between Scandinavia and its Baltic neighbours."

Last year, total freight traffic between the ports of Ystad and Świnoujście (where currently one leg of the Baltic-Adriatic Corridor starts/ends) rose by 16% year-on-year, whereas wheeled cargo traffic increased by 13% yoy.
