Baltic Transport 2012 highlights - Terminals privatised in Gothenburg

In the beginning of 2012, the authorities of Gothenburg port have succeeded in privatising its container & ro-ro terminals.

The Skandia Container Terminal was handed over to APM Terminals for the next 25 years. During the first five years the company declared to invest nearly EUR 90 mln in the development of the terminal, chiefly in infrastructural improvements. Today, APM Terminals Gothenburg is one of the most busiest box facilities on the Baltic and the only one which handles two ocean services of Maersk Line in the BSR (‘AE 7’ and ‘AE 10’).

DFDS and C.RO Ports has taken over Älvsborg Ro/Ro AB – also for 25 years. The terminal encompasses 463 thou. m2 and has seven berths. Later the year, both firms decided to invest EUR 7.7 mln in increasing the potential of the terminal by buying new machinery, improving the infrastructure, reinforcing the terminal’s areas as well as installing new and more efficient IT systems.

Also Älvsborg’s ro-ro network can be viewed on the Baltic Transport Maps interactive portal under this link
