Baltic Transport 2013 highlights - Another port merger in Sweden

Ports in Halmstad and Varberg united as the Port of Halland.

The merger is another example of synergy rather than competition between Swedish ports, adding a new entity to joint port already functioning authorities (e.g. Ports of Stockholm, Copenhagen Malmö Port, Mälarhamnar or ports around the Vänern lake).

The new port is mutually owned 50/50 by the municipalities of Halmstad and Varberg. Port of Halland is headquartered in Halmstad and its board is also split fifty-fifty between the two Swedish local authorities.

The Port of Halland is a full service port with vast experience and capacity in the areas of containerised goods, ro-ro freight, dry & liquid bulk, biomass, cars, project cargo, recycling and forestry products.

Read more about this and other 2013 highlights for Baltic Transport in the upcoming BTJ 1/2014 Jan.-Feb. printed edition
