Fjord Line orders a new HSC

The Australian Austal Ships shipyard has been contracted to deliver a brand-new ro-pax catamaran for Fjord Line's Hirtshals-Kristiansand route.

The new vessel, due to start its sailings in 2020, will be 109 m long and 30.5 m wide, offering room for up to 1,200 passengers, as well as over 500 lane metres of cargo capacity.

"During the development phase, comfort has been important to us. The new catamaran will be the most relaxing and comfortable mode of travel, as well as being the fastest route between Norway and Denmark. With a top speed of 40 knots, the travel time will still be 2 hours and 15 minutes. Furthermore, the investment will make Fjord Line into a new operator within the freight segment on this corridor," Rickard Ternblom, CEO, Fjord Line, commented.

Currently, the company's Hirtshals-Kristiansand service is served by the high speed pax-only craft Fjord Cat, which in 2016 carried 213 thou. passengers on this route.
