Finland raises lorries' max mass

As of March 1st, 2017, Finland-registered tri-axle trucks will be permanently permitted to carry two tonnes more, up to 28 tn.

At the same time, six-axle lorries will be allowed to take on-board additional four tonnes, up to 52 tn.

Moreover, other provisions concerning vehicle mass and dimensions will be adjusted, too, allowing e.g. for more effective use of LNG transports, as well as timber trailers. New amendments will simplify max mass provisions, reducing the need to extend the use of old lorries beyond their standard service life.

According to the Finnish Government, these changes will make it easier to select the most suitable rolling stock for each transport operation, as the vehicle will not incur excessive road maintenance costs, negative impacts on the environment or traffic safety.
