BTJ 5/17 - International trade sanctions. Basis, extent, scope, nature, enforcement, compliance, Iran, and Brexit

Ten years ago, international trade sanctions was a niche area, of limited interest to the great majority of commercial organisations.

Fast forward to today, and they have become a board-level issue for almost every company engaged in international commerce, because of the number of countries targeted by sanctions, the breadth of the restrictions and the consequences if they are breached.

We have seen a number of high profile enforcement actions over the past few years, with fines running into millions and billions of US dollars.
