The overall decrease was caused by a 15.1% year-on-year drop in the turnover of dry bulk, down to 3.81mt, while at the same time the handling of liquid bulk advanced by 11.8% yoy, up to 516.8kt, while general cargo noted a slight downtick of 0.4% yoy only, totalling 977.5kt.
The coronavirus pandemic took its toll on the ferry business - the number of handled ro-ro cargo units was 17.7% lower (33,253) than in I-X 2019 as well as fewer passengers went to and from the Latvian port (-19.6% yoy to 26,833).
Conversely, Liepāja's container traffic advanced from almost 2.0k to over 3.0k TEUs (+52.6% yoy).
