Laeso looks at a new ferry

The Ferry Company Læsø has contracted OSK-Ship Tech to investigate the potential of deploying a brand-new ship between the island of Læsø and Frederikshavn on the Danish mainland.

OSK-Ship Tech will be responsible for the passenger-car ferry's design (incl. interiors), specifications, technical solutions, and eventually also tendering and building if the project receives a green light.

The 90 minute-long Læsø-Frederikshavn link is currently served by the 1995-built Ane Læsø (offering room for 440 passengers and 440 pax cars) and the 1997-constructed Margrete Læsø (589 and 75). Each year about 270,000 travellers are carried on this route.

"A ferry project of this magnitude gives us the possibility to bring all of our competences to the table, and we are looking forward to examining whether the premises for a completely new ferry exist and subsequently potentially deliver a ship that is totally optimised to serve this route," Kristian Carøe Lind, CTO, OSK-ShipTech, said.

Lars Rieks, CEO, The Ferry Company Læsø, added, "There is a rise in the tourism to Læsø, and one of the most important things in attracting new tourists is smooth and frequent access to the island."
