TOC Europe - conference preview

The Container Supply Chain Conference (part of TOC Europe) returns to Hamburg for its 40th year at a pivotal and potentially transformative time for global container supply chains, logistics, shipping and landside operations.

Over the last four decades, the business of moving containerised goods around the world has grown vastly in scale and range. Fuelled by - and in turn fuelling - the globalisation of trade, manufacturing and retail, containerisation has penetrated almost every part of the world.

Technological ingenuity has enabled an ever-growing array of cargoes to be containerised, from sensitive fresh produce to agricultural commodities, construction materials and project cargoes, hazardous bulk liquids and high-value pharmaceuticals. Trillions of dollars have been poured into building the global liner vessel and container fleet, and setting up the massive landside infrastructure and support services needed to make maritime container supply chains work.

Yet as the industry nears the midway point of 2016, uncertainty, volatility and risk abound. And the big questions we will be posing at this year's Container Supply Chain Conference are not just what the industry needs to do now to navigate today's fragile and risky global market, but also whether a period of profound transformation is coming (fast) to all container supply chain participants, driven by technology.

Day 1: DELIVERING SUCCESSES IN THE FRAGILE GLOBAL MARKET
