Nissan to car-supply CEE via Gdańsk

Following three years of negotiations, the Renault-Nissan Alliance has decided to entrust the Port of Gdańsk with handling of its cars for the markets of Central and Eastern Europe.

The three-year contract, logistically executed by Hyundai-Glovis' subsidiary Adampol, will start on April 1st. Nissan cars manufactured in Japan, Spain, and in the UK will pass Gdańsk once a week on their way onto the Polish, Lithuanian, Latvia, Ukrainian, Czech, Slovak, and Hungarian markets.

It is estimated that thanks to the new deal Gdańsk will take care of approx. 20 thou. of vehicles more per year, levelling the port's entire annual car traffic up to 100 thou.

In the past, the Port of Gdańsk was responsible for handling Nissan cars destined for Latvia, Lithuania, and Ukraine, as well as around 40% of Nissan's UK production for Poland. The remaining volumes for the Polish market were transported via the Port of Amsterdam, which also supplied Czech and Slovak clients. Austria, in turn, catered for the market of Hungary.
