Rail freight traffic in Estonia: 8.0 mln tn carried in I-VIII 2017 (-5.9% yoy)

Transit traffic dropped by 13.6% year-on-year to 5.0 mln tn, followed by domestic shipments (+25% yoy to 2.0 mln tn), imports (-14% yoy to 0.81 mln tn), and exports (+11% yoy to 0.15 mln tn).

With 2.9 mln tn (+7.3% yoy), fertilizers was the most common commodity carried across Estonia's rail network. Carriages of oil shale and chemical products rose as well - by 17% yoy and 3.5% yoy to 1.4 mln tn and 0.75 mln tn, respectively.

On the other hand, rail transports of oil products noted a downtick by 36% yoy to 1.8 mln tn.

Container traffic decreased, too, by 11% yoy to 21,220 TEU.
