To commemorate the 200th anniversary of discovering Antarctica - by the Estonian-born Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen and Mikhail Lazarev - Kersti Kaljulaid, President of the Republic of Estonia, went southbound, yet not on a tourist-like, handshake, nice views jaunt but a full-blown state business trip.
"Not hard to see why Estonia is one of the leading digital communications societies when the President is casually doing state business from the bottom of the world," Matt Desch, CEO, Iridium, tweeted about President Kaljulaid's real-time management of state affairs and signing digital legally-binding documents from the polar region with the use of his company's Certus satellite broadband service.
"Being a digital society means geography doesn't matter anymore," President Kaljulaid said. She continued, "We can do business, run the country and communicate with our close ones wherever we are in the world."
And all of this before home office became the emblem of COVID-19 times!
