According to Alexander Pinskiy, General Director of the Moscow-based hi-tech marine association MARINET, shipping companies will be able to commence operations of Russian-flagged autonomous vessels as early as 2021.
Proper national legislation development and real-world technology tests will be completed this year as a result of carrying out the organization's Autonomous and Remote Navigation Trial Project (supported since 2019 by the Ministry of Industry and Trade).
Moreover, Pinskiy underlined during a recent e-conference, the project will also make it possible to retrofit existing vessels to make them autonomous.
