Coming back to our habit of showcasing alternative uses of shipping containers, this time we're travelling to Canada where the Modpools company is making swimming pools and hot tubs of them (2.4-by six or 12 metres).
Containers come from China (laden on their final journey in order not to carry thin air), and after six-to-eight weeks a new life is breathed into what used to be your run-of-the-mill box.
To do so, however, several modifications need to be made, including the addition of a heavy-duty pool coping on the top edge, a sanitation and heating system, colour-changing LED lights, and Jacuzzi jets (sufficiently powerful to give a current so that one can swim in one place).
A big viewing window is inserted, too. The pool's temperature, lighting, and jets can be controlled via an app.
Over 350 container pools were made to date. Alike containers, they're available for shipping worldwide.
