Profit-cushioned dogma has until now prevented Brussels from taking action against what some see as China's predatory economic polices.

The belief in free markets (with the glaring exception of agricultural products) is so deeply rooted in the European Commission that it has taken on religious hues.

Commission evangelists have over the last 15 years travelled the world to convert the heathen.

Given the right sermon, they would surely see the light.
