After five years of inactivity, the Polish inland port, located in the southwestern part of the country, again started to tranship cargo.
This year, the port expects to take care of approx. 250kt of coal.
The coal shipped in 2017 through Gliwice was carried on barges across the Oder River to a combined heat and power plant in Wrocław. The route is 200 km long and on their way the barges have to cross 27 locks.
Gliwice is connected to the E30 inland waterway route, which joins the Baltic Sea through the Port of Szczecin, via the 40.6 km long Gliwice Canal.
