With 7.6mt (-5.5% year-on-year) dispatched last year, transits continue to dominate the country's rail cargo traffic.
At the same time domestic shipments totalled 3.2mt (+12.4% yoy), followed by 1.3mt of imports (-6.3% yoy) and 260kt of exports (+23% yoy).
"I am glad to note that the cargo volumes of Estonian Railways remained virtually at the same level compared to the previous year and the final half of the year showed an increase," Erik Laidvee, CEO, Estonian Railways, commented.
He also said, "Even though it was not possible to stop the drop in the cargo volumes of goods in transit, we achieved a significantly better result than planned thanks to the continued growth in local and export carriage."
