The company has organised a 45-container-big shipment from St. Petersburg to Beijing ahead of turning it into a regular connection starting in 2022.
The train set departed from the Russian seaport on 25 November and arrived in China's capital on 11 December.
The company has sourced the goods from Rotterdam, Hamburg, Duisburg, Gdynia, and Gdańsk, then transported them by ship to St. Petersburg for onward rail carriage.
The service will run along two routes. The northern can pass the border in Zabaykalsk-Manzhouli or Zamyn-Üüd-Erlian. The southern will go through Dostyk-Altynkol.
"In the long term, the new service from St. Petersburg will relieve the existing routes via Poland, which will lead to reduced backlogs. With the route via St. Petersburg, we are demonstrating a real alternative that belongs to the future in view of increasing volumes of goods," Uwe Leuschner, CEO, FELB Group, commented.
