The German Baltic seaport thus hit its new all-time high for freight traffic.
General cargo handling accounted for 6.35mt (+7.9% year-on-year), out of which ferry cargo - 6.32mt (+7.4% yoy). Kiel's link with Klaipėda totted up to 2.9mt (+9% yoy), Gothenburg - 2.1mt (+16% yoy), and Oslo - 600kt (+2% yoy).
Turnover of bulk goods added the remaining 1.21mt (+17.6% yoy).
A total of 209,518 trucks & trailers went through Kiel's quays (+10.6% yoy). The port also handled 28,774 TEUs (+22.5% yoy) and 27,376 new vehicles (+27.6% yoy).
On the other hand, intermodal rail traffic contracted - by 7.1% yoy to 30,633 units.
Kiel's passenger traffic climbed by 78.1% yoy to almost 922k travellers, including 633k ferry (+31% yoy) and 286k cruise (+738% yoy).
