The company's Aurora Botnia ferry also carried 63,647 private vehicles between the ports of Umeå and Vaasa, up 14.3% on the 2022 result.
On the other hand, the Finnish-Swedish ferry line transported fewer ro-ro cargo units, down 5.9% year-on-year to 20,886.
Peter Ståhlberg, Managing Director of Wasaline, commented on the past year:
The year was challenging due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which brought uncertainty to the market and increased costs. Despite that, we have succeeded in further developing the traffic in Kvarken and can present a result that exceeds expectations and enables continued investments in environmental work and prosperous emergency traffic between Finland and Sweden.
His company also shared that since Aurora Botnia set sail in 2021, Wasaline has reduced its CO2 emissions by 29% per trip. In 2023, its carbon footprint fell by another 23%.
