The Finnish capital seaport also welcomed one so-called winter cruise call, which brought 129 visitors.
The Tallinn ferry connection saw 867,334 travellers (+3.2% year-over-year), followed by the service to & from Stockholm (+6.2% yoy to 183,376), Travemünde (+3.9% yoy to 19,208), Mariehamn (+3.5% yoy to 3,101). There were also seven passengers classified as 'others' (down from 63 in January-February 2024). The ships serving Helsinki's ferry traffic also transported 163,772 private vehicles (-2.8% yoy).
On the cargo front, the Port of Helsinki took care of nearly 2.23 million tonnes, a downtick of 0.1% vs the corresponding period from last year. International freight traffic totalled 2.16mt (-0.1% yoy), while domestic - 69.3kt (+0.1% yoy).
Unitized freight, Helsinki's prime trade, totted up to 1.92mt (+2.4% yoy). Container traffic was up 0.6% yoy to 75,723 TEUs and up 7% yoy when counted in tonnes (601.3kt). Whereas fewer trucks & trailers went through the seaport's quays, down 3% yoy to 99,736, they carried more freight, an increase of 0.4% yoy to 1.32mt.
Handling of dry bulk decreased by 30.1% yoy to 172.7kt, while that of break-bulk - rose by 32.3% yoy to 114.9kt.
