In an already slow to adapt industry, a port agency is perhaps one of the most reluctant adopters in the maritime space of technological innovation.
While spreadsheets and e-mails are commonplace, equally, so are handwritten workbooks and post-it notes.
Intelligent software solutions linked to the cloud and coupled with mobile technology platforms are available, but uptake is slow. That needs to change.
This is particularly true for the humble port agent. They are the link between ship and shore and often used as the "fixers" by the vessel, owner, port, or charterer.
