Ro-ro traffic also noted an increase in Riga - up by 15.9% year-on-year to 26,073 cargo units over 2018's first four months.

Overall, however, the Latvian seaport took care of less cargo than in the corresponding period last year - down by 6.3% yoy to 11.45mt.

The turnover of liquids lost 40.6% yoy and totalled 1.37mt. Dry bulk went down by 4.5% yoy to 7.37mt.

At the same time, general cargo rose by 23.1% yoy to 2.71mt, including 1.62mt of containerised goods (+9.1% yoy) and 167.4kt of wheeled cargo (+46.7% yoy).

Passenger traffic noted an uptick, too. Out of the total 223,341 travellers (+12.8% yoy), 219,875 came onboard ferries (+12.4% yoy), while the remaining 3,466 were brought by cruise ships (+47.9% yoy).
