The cargo-handling fleet of the Port of Tauranga, which houses the country's largest container terminal, will grow with six hybrid straddle carriers, plus an electric one.
The machinery is expected to reach the Southern Hemisphere in Q4 2026, joining seven other Kalmar hybrid straddle carriers already at work in Tauranga.
"Expanding our use of eco-efficient equipment is vital if we are to achieve our aim to be carbon-zero by 2050 and to reduce our emissions by 5.0% per year relative to cargo volumes. This order also demonstrates our firm commitment to being a socially responsible operator," commented Dan Kneebone, General Manager, Property & Infrastructure, the Port of Tauranga.
Kalmar's Head of Oceania, Karri Keskinen, also shared, "We have been working hand in hand with the Port of Tauranga for over 25 years and are proud that our equipment forms the core of their fleet. Our proven hybrid and electric straddle carrier technologies will help the port take significant further steps forward on its journey towards a zero-emission future."
