Ask virtually any shipper, EU policymaker, or especially a representative of the European rail freight community, and you'll hear that they all want more goods transported on rails.
The goal is to increase the sector's modal share in freight transportation throughout Europe from 18% today to 30% in 2030.
Taking into account the expected overall growth in transport, this means more than doubling rail cargo volumes within the next 12 years. So, is this a realistic target or a fanciful illusion?
