The Baltic Sea Action Plan (BSAP) was developed over a decade ago to bring together the often separated individual efforts aimed at protecting the Baltic Sea. When it was introduced in 2007, it was met with great enthusiasm by the region's countries.
Indeed, over the years, some progress has been achieved: the number of protected areas has increased, for instance.
However, the target year of 2021 is approaching fast, yet many goals are still far away from being ticked off, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) warns in its latest report on the BSAP.
