Via Carpathia is already an ongoing road project that was conceived by Poland over a decade ago and which is now strongly promoted by the country's administration as a key element of the so-called Three Seas Initiative meant to bring closer the regions of the Baltic, Adriatic, and Black Seas.
This north-south transport corridor, to offer the standard of a highway/expressway, will start in the Lithuania Port of Klaipėda and go through Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania (incl. an extension to the port in Constantza), and Bulgaria to end in the Greek Port of Thessaloniki. Certain parts of Via Carpathia will coincide with the EU TEN-T, but by and large, this is a stand-alone project.
As such, one might ask if it all adds up - economically and transport-wise - and who'll ultimately have the upper hand in reaping the benefits.
