At the same time, this can have a positive impact on the environment, not to mention providing the investors with a new source of revenue and a tool for cutting down the costs.

The paper maintains that these and other smart technologies help port authorities and terminal operators become more resourceful and improve functionality without major infrastructure and equipment investments.
