The research project "Brave new world?" about the future of the container transport industry, aims to find a new recipe for value creation in a market that's due for some fundamental changes.
The report, authored by TT Club and McKinsey & Company, includes insights from experts and leaders from the transport industry as well as major e-commerce and manufacturing firms.
The results illustrate that while the physical aspect of container business won't evolve much, global trade flows can improve along with automation, while digitalisation, data use, and analytics might radically alter the sources of value creation.
Also worth noting, the research shows that industry leaders will look very different in 25 years, and familiar words like "Amazon" and "Uber" make appearances.
