China Offshore Oil Engineering Company (COOEC) has contracted Svanehøj Tank Control Systems to deliver a tank gauging system for the Longkou Nanshan LNG Terminal.
The company, part of the Danish Svanehøj Group, will supply 18 servo level gauges, six level-temperature-density (LTD) gauges, 12 multi-spot temperature sensors, and hard- and software for data acquisition and rollover prediction.
The servo level gauges will continuously measure the LNG level using a servo-driven sensor in direct contact with the liquid, ensuring stable levels inside the LNG storage.
The LTD gauges will provide accurate temperature and density measurements throughout each tank's LNG column.
Longkou Nanshan LNG Terminal's six tanks will offer 220k m3. The facility's handling capacity will amount to 5mt/year.
"One consequence of increased global trade in LNG is an increased diversification of LNG supply sources. The import terminals must increasingly handle LNG with different compositions, which is a primary concern in terms of assuring stability and safety in LNG storage," David Clercq, Sales Manager at Svanehøj Tank Control Systems, explained.
He furthered, "It can be an unstable stratification that can evolve into a rollover of the layers. This causes an increase in the boil off rate up to 10 times than the normal condition, increase or over pressurization of the tank, or lifting of relief valve of the tanks," David Clercq, Sales Manager at Svanehøj Tank Control Systems, explained.
The company has already furnished three other Chinese LNG terminals with its tank gauging systems: Fujian (six tanks), Ningbo (six), and Tangshan (four). In addition, Svanehøj Tank Control Systems is planning expansions at the Ningbo, Tangshan, and Longkou LNG terminals (the last up to 20 tanks). The latest contract is the largest for Svanehøj Tank Control Systems in China.
