The Swedish ferry line has introduced measures aimed at containing the spread of coronavirus, so as to secure traffic to and from the island of Gotland.

The timetable has been reduced to two daily departures between Visby and Nynäshamn and one per day with Oskarshamn.

In addition, the company has limited the number of available passenger seating tickets in order to increase the space between people. In total, the ferries' pax capacity has been reduced by more than half.

Destination Gotland has also, i.a., closed its restaurants, and placed containers with disinfectants in their publicly accessible toilets and in cabins. Social distancing is being advised, too, while those who don't have to travel are encouraged to stay home. The ferry line won't charge for replacing tickets that are valid between 8 and 14 April, and those who'll do so for a later date will also receive a SEK500 gift card.

"Our first priority is to long-term secure the supply chain. We're the society's critical infrastructure. I'm convinced our decisions will be met with understanding and I'd like to thank all clients who're taking responsibility in these times," Christer Bruzelius, CEO, Destination Gotland, said.

He added, "Our message is clear: stay home during Easter. We're now protecting the healthcare system and making sure it gets the necessary supplies. Gotland will be there in the future to visit it."
