The Norwegian chemical company is now transporting nitrate from its facility in Porsgunn to the Swedish Port of Uddevalla with the use of ships instead of trucks.
As a result, some 325 lorries will be taken out of road traffic per year.
"It is very positive from our side that goods go from land to sea. Overland transportation is relatively cumbersome, when numerous few-tonne-big only shipments have to be handled administratively, whereas it's more or less the same amount of paperwork in the case of a ship carrying 2,000-3,000 tonnes," Ulf Stenberg, MD, the Port of Uddevalla, commented to Sjöfartstidningen.
