The shipping and terminal operating company will most likely be the party to operate and manage Pier 55 where the Egyptian port's upcoming multi-purpose terminal will be located.
The facility will span over 560k m2 (out of which storage yards - 550k), offering a 2.35-km-long quay wall.
The terminal will include three container berths: one 17.5 m-deep and 900 m-long, and two 14.5 m-deep, and 520 m- and 425 m-long, respectively. The yearly box handling capacity will sum up to 1.5m TEUs.
There will also be one berth for non-containerised freight, 14 m-deep and 505 m-long.
The beginning of operations is slated for 2022.
"During the trip to Egypt of Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the CMA CGM Group, [...] the Egyptian authorities have confirmed their intention to enter into a long-term partnership with CMA CGM for the operation and management of Pier 55, the Port of Alexandria's upcoming multi-purpose terminal," CMA CGM wrote in a press release.
It also read, "This partnership will also include the development of logistics solutions, digitalization, the contribution to the training of younger generations in maritime and logistics, as well as other investments."
