The 20 MVA onshore power supply (OPS) facility, located in Rostock-Warnemünde and completed in the summer of 2020, was used for the first time on 10 May.
The setup makes it possible for two cruisers to concurrently draw electricity at the port's berths P7 and P8.
The OPS is of modular design, with the components stacked inside twenty-foot containers. The installation includes an integrated frequency converter to transform shore electricity to accommodate all standard global shipboard power supply systems (with both 50 and 60 Hz).
The Rostock-Warnemünde OPS is a result of a 2018-initiated co-op between the Hanseatic and University City of Rostock, the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Rostock Port, and AIDA Cruises.
