MOL Group and Mitsui E&S Machinery will study the introduction of a zero-emission rubber-tyred gantry crane.
MOL Group's company Shosen Koun has already commissioned Mitsui E&S Machinery for the delivery of the Near Zero Emission Transtainer RTG Crane (NZE RTG). The new machinery works across the MOL-operated Kobe International Container Terminal in Japan.
According to MOL Group, thanks to the smaller size of its diesel engine, the NZE RTG's fuel consumption is lower by 20-30% than that of its conventional counterpart.
However, the NZE RTG's diesel generator will be replaced with a hydrogen fuel cell power unit. The retrofit should be ready by May 2022.
