The ship-to-shore (STS) cranes, designed and manufactured by Liebherr Container Cranes in Ireland, have been assembled in the Spanish Cádiz for onward shipping to Morocco.
Tanger Alliance (Marsa Moroc, Eurogate & Contship Italia, and Hapag-Lloyd) has added the new machinery to the fleet of its TC3 terminal in Tanger Med, bringing the facility's annual handling capacity to 1.5m TEUs.
Liebherr's STSes have 72 m of outreach, 54 m of lift height, 30.48 m of span, and 22 m of backreach. Their safe working load under twin-lift is 65t. The gantries can serve ships 26 container rows wide.
The STSes feature laser and ultrasonic anti-collision systems, smart slowdowns, have optic cores in the cabling, fault monitoring, and remote diagnostics.
Gerry Bunyan, Global Sales and Marketing Manager, Liebherr Container Cranes, said, "The handover of these cranes to Tanger Alliance is a key moment for the port. Tanger Alliance's investment in Liebherr STS cranes will be rewarded with industry leading productivity, low operational costs and the knowledge that the cranes will be available as required, to work on the world's largest vessels for many years to come. We look forward to seeing Tanger Alliance maximise the cranes potential."
