The Russian company has put in place a multimodal container service linking South Korea and Germany via the Far East and Baltic Russia.

The first shipment of 54 containers, with consumer goods, went by sea from the Korean Port of Busan to Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company. It was transhipped onto a Trans-Siberian Railway train, which arrived at the Port of Kaliningrad, transiting through Latvia and Lithuania. It was then carried by ship to the Port of Hamburg.

The rail part took 14 days, while the sea legs - seven.

TransContainer intends to source containerised cargoes from other Asia-Pacific countries for its new service soon.

"Kaliningrad, given its geographical position, is one of the most promising areas for the development of transit traffic logistics between the Asia-Pacific Region and Europe. With the growth of cargo traffic and the infrastructure work load on the inland western borders, the transportation service through this region ensures a competitive delivery time at a market price," Nikita Pushkarev, Sales and Customer Service Director, TransContainer, commented.
