A 14 ha plot, previously housing a coal power plant, has been sold, with 6.5 ha purchased by the German Baltic seaport.
The area is adjacent to Ostuferhafen, the port's biggest part specialising in serving ferry & ro-ro traffic.
"We are pleased to be able to further expand our logistics services in the long run through the purchase of the site," Dirk Claus, the Port of Kiel's Managing Director, said.
The municipal utility company Stadtwerke Kiel has taken over the remaining 7.5 ha.
