The Swedish Maritime Administration has commissioned the Port of Hargshamn's new fairway, now offering 12.5 m of clearance depth (also in the port basin).
A total of 225k m3 were dredged. Additionally, new navigation aids have been installed, nine sun-powered beacons, while those existing have been upgraded.
The new fairway will double the load capacity of ships able to call to Hargshamn.
The port plans to build a new 200 m-long quay, set to be ready in the first half of 2023.
The nearby Dannemora iron ore mine is to be reopened. According to the Swedish Maritime Administration, it can send as many as 1.2mt through the Port of Hargshamn.
