The Italian steel company has placed an order for four LPS 800 portal cranes for deployment at the company's facility in the Port of Taranto.
The fully-electric LPSes will come in a four-rope configuration with a maximum lifting capacity of 144t each.
The machinery will feature Liebherr's Pactronic hybrid power booster. This storage accumulates sink or excess energy from the electric drive and returns it to the closed hydraulic circuit in the form of pressure when required. The add-on allows the lifting power to increase, with handling rates of 2,000t/hour.
Acciaierie d'Italia's LPS 800s will come in a customised portal version. "Detaching the crane substructure via a portal has various advantages. The crane can move along the quay edge on the already installed rail and at the same time, the space under the portal can be used," Liebherr explains in a press release.
