Aberdeen Harbour and the British oil & gas multinational will identify and develop projects to reduce ship-related pollution.
Specifically, the two will investigate the installation of onshore power supply facilities (incl. providing low-to-zero carbon power over time), supplying green hydrogen as a marine fuel, and assisting the energy industry in developing, operating, and maintaining offshore wind farms.
bp has also recently been announced as the preferred bidder to form a new hydrogen hub joint venture with Aberdeen City Council. The hub aims to create Scotland's first scalable green hydrogen production site, plus a refuelling facility for public transport.
At the same time, bp and EnBW have made a bid in the ScotWind offshore wind leasing round. If successful, this project would see the development of 2.9 GW.
"Reducing emissions from vessels berthed in the port and providing low carbon power supplies will be critical to achieving a green maritime industry and requires innovative thinking and practices," Bob Sanguinetti, Chief Executive of Aberdeen Harbour Board, said.
Emeka Emembolu, bp North Sea Senior Vice President, also underlined, "For nearly 30 years, Aberdeen Harbour has provided bp with world-class facilities in support of our North Sea oil and gas operations. We are delighted to be strengthening that relationship in a way that we believe will help further the net-zero ambitions of both organisations."
