Nicknamed Flexible Multi-Terminal, the new set-up allows for better handling of unitised freight - ro-ro cargo units, containers, vehicles, and high-and-heavy freight.
The concept has been drawn up to streamline Grimaldi Group's operations at the Danish Port of Esbjerg (the Neapolitan company is the majority stakeholder of Scandinavian Auto Logistics, SAL). It includes a staging area located directly at the ramps, while the storage sites are less than 100 meters from the quayside.
"The possibility to handle all types of ro-ro cargoes with one of the largest fleets in the world provided the flexibility needed to benefit from the vast network of Grimaldi Lines," Henrik Otto Jensen, SAL's CEO, said.
He added, "We believe that flexibility and efficiency must be combined, when moving complex cargoes around the world - and this starts when we receive the goods in Port Esbjerg."
