Viking Cruises' Viking Venus has become the first vessel to draw electricity from the Norwegian port's brand-new onshore power supply (OPS) facility.
The Port of Bergen offers five OPS connections, with three cruise ships able to simultaneously draw power from the shore.
Each 50/60Hz facility can deliver up to 16 MVA for vessels that use 11 kV and 9.6 MVA for the 6.6 kV ones.
"Viking is proud to have Bergen as its homeport for our ships and to have built up the port into an international turning port for cruises in collaboration with our partners in Bergen. All of our ships that call at the port in the future will use the facility," the Basel-headquartered cruise line said on the occasion of the first 'plug-in.'
