The 65,000-m² facility, located next to the Port of Gothenburg's container and ro-ro terminals, saw its railways rebuilt and streamlined, freeing up yard space.
"In a port, space is a limited resource. Capacity development is therefore not only about building bigger, but just as much about using the infrastructure and land we already have in a smarter way. In this case, 5% more space has given us almost twice the yard capacity," highlighted Carl Johan Andersson, Senior Logistics Developer at the Port of Gothenburg.
Emma Meltin, Bridge Manager Intermodal, Gothenburg RoRo Terminal, added, "For us as terminal operator, this is primarily about gaining greater flexibility in day-to-day operations. When we can store more cargo at the terminal, it becomes easier to plan flows and manage peaks without having to move cargo unnecessarily. This makes operations more efficient and ultimately provides better and more reliable service to our customers."
Arken Intermodal Terminal has seven electrified rail tracks, totalling 3,360 metres. The facility can handle up to 100,000 freight units per year.
