The Norwegian-Swedish shipping line has entrusted Jinling Shipyard (Jiangsu) with constructing four dual-fuel (gas) pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) of 9,900 CEU capacity, with options for eight more.
The firm quartet will be delivered from mid-2030, with the eight optional ones following suit in fours in 2031 and 2032, respectively.
If all 12 will be ordered, Wallenius Wilhelmsen's latest PCTC tonnage renewal investment will total around $1.5 billion.
Including options, the company's order book amounts to 26 vessels now.
"We continue to see attractive opportunities in the segments we serve and want to ensure we have the capacity, flexibility, and efficiency needed to support our customers well into the next decades. Expanding our newbuilding programme with deliveries from 2030 reflects our confidence in the long-term fundamentals of the market. We are investing now to ensure we can continue to grow with our customers while further developing our leading position in deep-sea ro-ro," commented Xavier Leroi, COO Shipping Services at Wallenius Wilhelmsen.
