The Swedish state rail freight haulier will transport raw materials between Luleå and the mining company's Ore Fields (mines in Gällivare and Kiruna).
The traffic will include seven weekly runs, with around 1,200t carried daily.
"Rail transport is crucial for our business, not only the ore trains but also those carrying inputs for our processes. For example, a continuous supply of cement is necessary for reinforcing our mines underground. This deal secures our transport and means greater logistical flexibility towards our big green transition," Linda Bjurholt, Head of Logistics at LKAB and CEO of LKAB Malmtrafik.
The agreement will also see Green Cargo modernising its customer interface and providing LKAB with a dedicated customer service team responsible for deliveries and developing new digital and operational services.
Johan Roswall, Key Account Manager, Green Cargo, commented in this regard, "The digital services Green Cargo will offer are the next big step that enables increasing efficiency by our customers. We are taking a higher role up in the clients' value chains with the help of API and artificial intelligence, which will oversee the customer warehouse inventory and order raw materials automatically."
