The Swedish Furetank has contracted the China Merchants Jinling Shipyard to deliver another 17,999 dwt tanker of the Vinga type.
Furetank expects to take hold of the vessel in July 2024.
The dual-fuel (liquefied natural gas/liquid biogas) 1A ice-class ship will offer 20,306 m3 of capacity spread across 12 epoxy-coated tanks.
The tanker will be equipped to draw energy from an onshore power supply (6.6 kV) to run its loading pumps.
She will also have a battery pack for hybrid operations.
"We are very pleased that we can supply the eleventh ship in our climate-friendly Vinga series. Furetank's ambition is to be the leading player in the segment and offer our clients effective and environmentally-friendly transportation. With a big fleet we can provide good service while optimising traffic to increase the utilisation rate of the vessels," Lars Höglund, Furetank's CEO, commented.
The company's latest order comes with an option for one more ship.
Of the Vinga type, eight tankers are already sailing: four in Furetank's livery, two in Älvtank's, and one piece in Thun Tankers and Desgagnés'.
In January and March 2022, Furetank and Thun Tankers placed orders for the ninth and tenth 'Vinga,' respectively.
