The transport arm of the Swedish timber, pulp, and paper manufacturer based in Sundsvall has introduced frequency and port-call changes to its Baltic-North Sea services.
Previously, SCA Logistics' three ro-ros departed from Umeå: twice weekly for Kiel and once per week for London and Rotterdam. From 1 October 2026, each service offers two weekly departures.
Next, the Port of Piteå has been added to the northbound leg. There, cargo from SCA's Munksund paper mill is loaded, while recovered fibre and other cargoes are unloaded.
Third, vessels carrying kraftliner and pulp to Western and Central Europe now call at Terminal Vlissingen instead of Rotterdam, a change that applies to both the ro-ros vessels and additional bulk ships.
"With the new set-up, the vessels' average speed can be reduced from around 15 knots to 11-12. Combined with higher load factors, particularly on northbound voyages, this means that the vessels can be utilised more efficiently," SCA Logistics shared in a press briefing.
Magnus Svensson, President of SCA Sourcing and Logistics, also highlighted, "By planning our logistics more intelligently, we can reduce emissions per tonne-kilometre by around 40%. The approach to Vlissingen is short and relatively straightforward for our vessels, which means we can save a couple of hours per voyage. This is another way for us to make our transport more efficient and reduce emissions. We also believe that our already high delivery reliability can be improved further."
SCA Logistics' network is served by SCA Obbola, SCA Ortviken, and SCA Ostrand - each offering 2,100 lane metres of capacity.
